EVENTS » Blanket Ceremony
May 31, 2017
6:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Grande Prairie Public Library
The blanket exercise is an activity that illustrates the historic and contemporary relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada. Participants take on the roles of Indigenous peoples. Standing on blankets that represent the land, they walk through pre-contact, treaty-making, colonization and resistance. Participants are drawn into the experience by reading scrolls and carrying cards which ultimately determine their outcomes.
Participants must bring their own blanket. Please register as space is limited. To register call 780-357-7473 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Led by Kathy Dube and Andrea Deleeuw An Elder will be present.
