Whether it’s a cozy patio, a scenic picnic spot, or a road trip pit stop, there’s something delicious waiting just around the corner. We couldn’t fit all of our favorite places here, but these GPRTA member picks will keep you coming back for seconds, and thirds, long after summer ends!
Premier Patios
Is there anything better than soaking up the sun on a patio with a tasty meal? Whether you’re all about juicy burgers or light, fresh salads, food just tastes better in the open air!
- Red Rock Urban BBQ: Family-friendly, perfectly smoked meats, and portions the size of Alberta itself. Need we say more?
- Mr Mikes SteakhouseCasual: Nothing says “Grande Prairie summer” like a seared steak and great company.
- The Lion’s Den Pub: Soup, sandwiches, and everything in between – this place defines “perfect pub.”
- Latitude 55 Distilling Co.: Great drinks, great food, and great vibes! Plus, their south-facing patio is perfect for soaking up rays with friends (and furry ones – it’s dog-friendly too!).
- Grain Bin Brewing Company: Bring your pup, grab a local brew, and enjoy outdoor games on this relaxed, dog-friendly patio.
- Earls Kitchen and Bar: Sit among the cherry blossoms on their year-round, beautifully decorated patio, and don’t miss out on their Happy Hour menu!

Café
Sometimes, you just need a light snack to pair with the warm weather. These café patios are perfect for chilling with friends or relaxing on your own.
- Valley Bee Café: With a honey-themed menu, it’s a sweet spot you won’t want to miss. (Plus, it’s part of the Hive Hero honey bee farm – how cool is that?)
- Spruce and Bean Café: is gift and coffee shop nestled in the Rocky Mountain town of Grande Cache. Enjoy a coffee and sweet treat while shopping for a unique gift from many local artists; wood working, natural body care products, homemade candles and more.
- A must visit summer patio is The Olde Country Inn Bavarian Restaurant, in Valleyview, described as a “Hidden Gem”. The tea shop offers a variety of delicious food including homecooked Bavarian cuisine.
- Café 43 at the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum in Wembley offer homestyle cooking; appetizers, lunch, entrees and desserts. Open Tuesdays through Saturdays for lunch or dinner and Sundays for lunch.
Picnics, Pit Stops, and Road Trips
Ready to hit the road and explore beyond the city limits? Pack your bags, load up the car, and discover the hidden gems scattered throughout our region. And trust us – the snacks are worth the drive.
- Beaverlodge: Check out the Farmers’ Market for fresh produce, and don’t forget to snap a pic with the giant beaver!
- Saddle Hills County: One bite of the cinnamon buns at Bay Tree General Store, and you’ll be hooked.
- City of Grande Prairie: Downtown is packed with amazing locally-owned restaurants. You’ll want to try them all.
- Municipal District of Greenview: Need a road trip snack? Swing by Crooked Creek Donuts and treat yourself.
- Sexsmith: Fresh bread at the Farmers’ Market in the historic ‘Grain Capital of the British Empire’ – it’s a must-try.
- Broken Tine Orchard: Wander through the orchard, sip on Haskap berry wine, and enjoy the peaceful vibe.
- Country Roads RV Park: Planning a road trip? This RV park has it all – picnic tables, grills, and plenty of space to stretch your legs after a long drive. Perfect for pit stops or a full day of fun!
