Summer Dining in the Grande Prairie Region

The Pleasure of Patios, Picnics, and Pit Stops

Summer’s the perfect time to enjoy eating outdoors with your friends and family. The Grande Prairie region has no shortage of excellent al fresco options to suit every palate. From patios and gardens to picnic spots, we don’t have the space to list every one of our region’s fantastic dining options – but here are some of our favourite GPRTA members that will have you coming back for seconds, through summer and beyond.

Premier Patios

Is there anything better than a patio on a warm summer evening? Whether you’re a fan of loaded sandwiches or light salads, enjoying a great meal out in the open air just makes anything taste better.

  • Red Rock Urban BBQ: Family-friendly, perfectly smoked meats, gigantic portions. Need we say more?
  • Maddhatters: A local favourite serving up the freshest food grown right in our region’s backyard.
  • Mr Mikes SteakhouseCasual: Nothing says GP summer like a perfectly seared steak in good company.
  • The Lion’s Den Pub: Soup, sandwiches, and so much more – some people call this the perfect pub.
  • Crown & Anchor Pub: Plentiful Happy Hour deals, and live music almost every day of the week. Do ask for refills, don’t ask for Free Bird.
  • Grain Bin Brewing Company: Bring Fido along with you to this dog-friendly patio, and enjoy local craft brews and outdoor games.

Golf Courses

It doesn’t matter if you’re sinking albatrosses or bogeys, sitting back in the clubhouse and enjoying great food and drink after 18 holes is the perfect way to watch the sun go down.

Café Patios

Sometimes, all you want is a light snack to sit back and nibble on while you enjoy the warm weather. These café patios are the perfect place to chill with your friends and family.

Picnics, Pit Stops, and Road Trips

Looking to explore a bit beyond Grande Prairie city limits? Want to go off the beaten path and discover somewhere new? Put your tastebuds to the test at some of our region’s hidden gems!

  • Beaverlodge: Try food made with the freshest produce at the Farmers’ Market – just watch out for the giant beaver.
  • Saddle Hills County: Sample the cinnamon buns at Blueberry General Store and you won’t be disappointed.
  • City of Grande Prairie: There’s no shortage of fantastic locally-owned restaurants in the downtown core.
  • Municipal District of Greenview: Swing by Crooked Creek Donuts to indulge your sweet tooth, the perfect fuel for a road trip.
  • Sexsmith: Who could resist trying fresh-made bread at the Farmers’ Market in the town that was once known as the ‘Grain Capital of the British Empire’?
  • Broken Tine Orchard: There’s nothing more pleasant than an orchard. Haskap berry wine makes the place sweeter still.
  • Stolen Harvest Meadery: Fruit forests and wildflower gardens await, not to mention award-winning meads and honey wines.

Happy Eating

As the French say: Bon Appétit! Now that your family is well-fed, don’t forget that there’s plenty of fantastic summer activities and adventures waiting out there in the Grande Prairie region’s unforgettable landscapes.
