Muskoseepi Park Trail System

Location: Grande Prairie, AB
Trail Network: 18-20 km of paved, gravel, and natural trails

Winding through the heart of Grande Prairie, Muskoseepi Park is one of the region’s most-loved urban green spaces. The network follows the scenic Bear Creek corridor, connecting the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital to South Bear Creek and beyond. Along the way, you’ll discover forests, wetlands, playgrounds, public art, picnic areas, and plenty of places to stop and take it all in.

Muskoseepi Park makes it easy to experience nature without ever leaving the city.

Saskatoon Island Provincial Park

📍 Location: 21 km west of Grande Prairie on Hwy. 43, then 4 km north on the access road
🥾 Trail Network: Walking and biking trails throughout the park

Located along the shores of Saskatoon Lake, this provincial park offers a peaceful escape surrounded by forests, wetlands, and water views.

Visitors can enjoy walking, biking, photography, and wildlife viewing while discovering the quieter side of the region. A mix of maintained and natural surfaces provides options for different trail experiences.

Kleskun Hills Provincial Park

Location: 25 km east of Grande Prairie on Hwy. 43, north on RR 41
Trail Experience: Natural trails through Alberta’s northern badlands

Rising from the prairie, Kleskun Hills offers one of Northwestern Alberta’s most unique landscapes that is simply breathtaking.

Known as Alberta’s northernmost badlands, the area features rolling terrain, scenic viewpoints, and connections to the historic Edson Trail. In summer, visitors can explore the trails, take in expansive views, and discover the unique natural and geological features of this remarkable landscape.

Pipestone Creek Park and Campground

Location: 22 km west of Grande Prairie on Hwy. 43, then 16 km south on RR 82
Trail Experience: Easy to difficult routes near the Wapiti River and Pipestone Creek

With trails ranging from gentle walks to more challenging routes, Pipestone Creek offers adventure for a variety of abilities.

Follow the creek, take in river views, and discover the changing terrain that makes this area a favourite for hiking, camping, and nature exploration.

Wapiti Nordic Trails

Location: 12 km south on Hwy. 40, then TWP 104A and RR 62
Trail Network: 35+ km of maintained trails

Best known for winter recreation, Wapiti Nordic Trails continue the adventure through the warmer months with opportunities for hiking, trail running, and mountain biking.

Maintained by the Wapiti Nordic Ski Club, these trails support year-round outdoor recreation. A membership helps maintain the trail system and supports continued access.

O’Brien Provincial Park

Location: 14 km south of Grande Prairie on Hwy. 40, west on Hwy. 666 after crossing the Wapiti River
Trail Experience: Riverside trails and picnic areas

Nestled along the banks of the Wapiti River, O’Brien Provincial Park is a quiet day-use destination just minutes from Grande Prairie. Shaded by mature balsam poplars, the park offers easy walking trails that wind through the forest to scenic river viewpoints, making it an ideal spot to stretch your legs, enjoy a picnic, or simply unwind in nature.

With picnic tables, fire pits, open green spaces, and a peaceful riverside setting, O’Brien Provincial Park is perfect for a relaxed afternoon outdoors. Bring lunch, spend a summer day by the river, watch for wildlife, and enjoy one of the region’s quieter natural escapes.

Evergreen Ridge

Location: 1 km northeast of Evergreen Park
Trail Experience: Natural surface trails through 99 acres of woodland

Just outside the city, Evergreen Ridge provides a quiet setting for hiking, wildlife viewing, and nature walks.

Wooded trails wind through gentle rolling terrain and connect toward Crown land, offering visitors a glimpse of the wilderness surrounding Grande Prairie.

Many trails in the region lead into rural and natural areas where preparation helps create a safer and more enjoyable adventure.

• Make noise while hiking, especially near waterways, dense vegetation, or areas with limited visibility.
• Keep pets controlled and follow trail regulations.
• Store food, garbage, and scented items securely.
• If you encounter wildlife, remain calm, give the animal space, and slowly move away.
