Industry Resources and Opportunities

Tourism in Northwestern Alberta continues to create new opportunities for businesses, communities, and industry partners. Recognized by Travel Alberta as part of the Northern Rockies Tourism Development Zone (TDZ), an area identified for its strong tourism growth potential, the region is well positioned to attract investment, strengthen visitor experiences, and expand its visitor economy. From funding programs and market research to marketing initiatives and industry resources, this page is designed to help tourism operators make informed decisions and capitalize on these opportunities. 

Members can also discover tools, initiatives, and programs that help them make the most of their GPRTA membership while supporting business growth and regional collaboration.

Northern Sky Corridor Working Groups – Now Recruiting

The Northern Sky Corridor has established five Working Groups to advance priority tourism initiatives across the region. These implementation-focused groups bring together subject-matter experts, tourism organizations, municipalities, Indigenous governments, businesses, and partners to turn strategic pillars into action, reporting progress against key initiatives to the Corridor’s Stewardship Council.

These Working Groups are actively recruiting members from throughout the region. If you have expertise, capacity, or interest in contributing to any of the initiatives below, we encourage you to reach out directly to the relevant Working Group Chair

The Five Working Groups

1. Indigenous Tourism Development

Chaired by Renee Fehr, Indigenous Tourism Alberta  renee@indigenoustourismalberta.ca

Focused on supporting Indigenous participation in tourism training and entrepreneurship, amplifying funding awareness for capacity building, and promoting Indigenous protocol across the corridor.

Chaired by Tammy Brauer, Mighty Peace Tourism  admin@mightypeace.comAdvancing investment readiness for the Adventure Base Camp in Peace River and coordinating a Northern Sky Festival Calendar across the region.

Focused on advocating for an RV terminus in Yellowknife, developing an RV itinerary with Fraserway RV, aligning visitor information services, upgrading visitor site safety and wayfinding, and strengthening transportation access across the corridor.

Identifying target investors and events and supporting investment readiness for signature accommodation projects including the Signature Wellness Stay in Edmonton and the High Level Boreal Retreat.

Chaired by Jasmin Greavett, Grande Prairie Regional Tourism Association  director@gptourism.ca

Raising awareness of grants and funding programs, promoting the corridor as investment-ready, and supporting tourism businesses in packaging opportunities and building online presence.
