Harvest the Season: U-Pick Adventures in Northwestern Alberta
There is something special about summer in Northwestern Alberta.
Maybe it’s the long northern days, where the sun lingers well into the evening, giving you extra hours to explore. Or maybe it’s the way summer invites you to slow down—to trade busy schedules for scenic backroads, fresh air, and experiences that connect you with the land.
Here, some of the best summer adventures don’t require travelling far.
Within minutes of Grande Prairie, you’ll find berry orchards, flower fields, family farms, and hidden corners of the countryside where you can pick your own harvest, meet the people who grow it, and experience a side of the region many visitors never expect.
Whether you’re planning a family outing, looking for a peaceful afternoon, or simply want to experience the flavours of the season, these local U-pick destinations make it easy to turn an ordinary summer day into something memorable.
Broken Tine Orchard
Beaverlodge, Alberta
Haskap Berry U-Pick | July
Available by appointment only
➜ Reserve your seasonal experience
Less than one hour west of Grande Prairie, Broken Tine Orchard offers an experience that’s uniquely northern.
The Alde family has farmed this land for four generations, evolving from traditional prairie agriculture to one of the region’s pioneering haskap berry orchards. Their handcrafted wines have become a local favourite, but every July, visitors have the opportunity to experience the fruit at its source.
Spend an afternoon wandering the orchard, filling your basket with freshly picked haskap berries before settling in for a tasting that celebrates the flavours of Northwestern Alberta. You may even recognize these vibrant berries from Friceys Prairie Fruit Pops—the nostalgic haskap creamsicles made in Alberta using fruit grown right here at Broken Tine Orchard. It’s a delicious reminder that some of the province’s most unique flavours begin in the fields of the Peace Country.
